Three films from Maurfilm’s production have been selected for the program of the 19th edition of the Pragueshorts Festival, which will take place from February 26 to March 2, 2025, in Prague cinemas. The festival will present a diverse mix of Czech short films, including fiction, documentary, and animated works, with several films being shown in their world premieres.

The selected films include the animated documentary I Died in Irpin, directed by Anastasiia Falileieva, which had a successful premiere at the Annecy Festival. Another featured film is Hurikán by Jan Saska, which recently returned from the Sundance Film Festival. The program also includes the animated film Weeds by Pola Kazak, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

“This year, the National Competition program has been expanded to include documentary and animated films to reflect the genre and formal diversity of contemporary Czech short filmmaking. In addition to five fiction films, the audience can look forward to five animated films, three documentaries, and two experimental works,” says Radka Weiserová, the festival’s organizer.
“From nearly 130 submitted films, we selected the final 15, with the majority of them being made by female directors, who account for two-thirds of the competition films this year,”
she adds.

The complete festival program will be announced in mid-February. After its screenings in Prague cinemas, the festival will move to the KVIFF.TV streaming platform from March 2 to 23.
