The film The Daughter directed by Daria Kashcheeva, a student at the department of animation of FAMU in Prague, was chosen for the prestigious Festival International du Film d’Animation d’Annecy from among 3096 entrants from 93 countries. The film will be competing with 47 other films in the category Graduation films alongside another representative of FAMU – Diana Van Guyen’s animated document Apart.

„I have always admired camera work, the movements of the camera, work with light and depth of definition. So during one screening I thought what if I had a handheld camera in my puppet film? First this seemed like a crazy idea, I couldn’t imagine how I would do it but at the same time the idea inspired me and I felt that the dramatic aspect would work great!“ said Daria Kashcheeva in an interview for Stop Motion Magazine.

The Daughter is one of three films in the coproduction project Trojhlas, which is the result of joining three interesting student films which were being made simultaneously at three Czech art universities – FAMU, UMPRUM and the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň.

The film as a part of the puppet project Trojhlas was coproduced by the company MAUR film and was financially supported by the Czech State Cinematography Fund.
