Slovak director Nina Rybárová together with Tomáš Rybár have just finished their animated fable Criss Cross. Although the movie is designated for children, the unique artistic style will attract an adult audience as well.
Criss Cross combines traditional embroidery with the world of video games. The main characters are hand-embroidered forest animals that experience emotions similar to human ones: love, hatred, pride and jealousy.
„Our project aims to bring cross-stitch embroidery to life in animation without lingering in folk culture only. We work with modern elements, combining archaic designs with pixel art and the 8-bit poetics,“ explains the director Nina Rybárová.
